Garden City Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Attempted Sexual Exploitation of Children
A 25-year-old man from Garden City, Michigan has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for attempting to sexually exploit children, according to the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, Dawn N. Ison.
Collin Patrick Valenti was sentenced by United States District Judge Victoria A. Roberts after pleading guilty to asking an undercover law enforcement officer to create a video of a minor child being sexually abused. The undercover officer was posing as a parent of the child.
Valenti also admitted to engaging in the hands-on abuse of a small child and pretending to be a teenage girl online to obtain sexually explicit photographs of a minor teenage boy. He made approximately 50 other requests for sexually explicit images of children from individuals he believed to be the parents of the children.
“This offender requested that another individual create a horrific image of sexual abuse. We can only be thankful that he was communicating with an undercover law enforcement officer and not another abuser so that he could not cause harm to another minor,” U.S. Attorney Ison stated.
The case was investigated by the Northeast Michigan Trafficking and Exploitation Crimes Task Force of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christopher Rawsthorne.
The investigation and prosecution of this case highlights the dedication of law enforcement agencies to finding and stopping those who seek to exploit and abuse children. This office will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to ensure that individuals like Collin Patrick Valenti are held accountable for their crimes.
