Colombian Duo Caught in Cocaine Smuggling Operation
Two Colombian nationals have been charged in connection with a massive cocaine smuggling operation, authorities announced today.
JHON ALBEIRO PINEDA JIMENEZ, 36, and PEDRO ANTONIO JIMENEZ, 64, were indicted on two counts: conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, while on board a vessel subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.
According to the indictment, the duo allegedly conspired to traffic large quantities of cocaine, with each defendant facing a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum possible penalty of life in prison for each count.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans emphasized that an indictment is merely a charge, and the guilt of each defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the United States Coast Guard.
Assistant United States Attorney Brandon S. Long is leading the prosecution of the case.
The indictment serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of international cocaine trafficking and the importance of continued interagency cooperation in disrupting and dismantling these networks.
As the case proceeds, the public will be kept informed of any developments.
