Newark, N.J. – Andres Felipe Pineda Mogollon, a 25-year-old Colombian national, has become the fourth and final suspect to face charges for escaping from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention in Newark.
The defendant, along with Franklin Norberto Bautista Reyes, Joan Sebastian Castaneda Lozada, and Joel Enrrique Sandoval-Lopez, is accused of breaking through an aluminum second-story wall at Delaney Hall, a privately owned detention center, using mattresses as a makeshift landing pad and bed sheets to climb over the fence.
Pineda Mogollon was apprehended in Los Angeles on July 17, 2025, nearly a month after his alleged escape. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Michael A. Hammer on August 18, 2025.
Each defendant faces up to one year imprisonment and a $100,000 fine if convicted of escaping from the custody of an institution or officer.
The investigation was led by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael A. Hardin is representing the government in this case.
Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba emphasized that the charges are merely accusations, and Pineda Mogollon is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Defense counsel Stephen Turano, Esq., is representing the defendant.
