FORT WAYNE – The grimy truth emerges as Joel J. McClure, 38 years old, of Columbia City, Indiana, is handed a life sentence from the U.S. District Court. McClure’s dark web dealings have earned him 420 months behind bars for sexual exploitation of children and using his status as a registered sex offender to further his twisted desires.
The judge in this case, Holly A. Brady, delivered justice with a heavy hand, sentencing McClure to 300 months for the exploitation charge and an additional 120 months for the offense while being a registered sex offender. This adds up to a staggering total of 420 months, followed by 5 years of supervised release.
According to court documents, McClure lured a 14-year-old girl online with promises of digital gratification before meeting her in person. He traded vape pens and THC gummies for sexual encounters. This predator had already been convicted of child offenses in Texas, but his past crimes did not deter him from preying on another innocent victim.
“Joel McClure is a sexual predator of the worst kind,” said Acting U.S. Attorney M. Scott Proctor. “He has shown that only a long prison sentence will keep our families safe.”
FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Timothy J. O’Malley echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the lifelong impact on victims and the FBI’s relentless pursuit of child predators.
This case was a collaborative effort by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and various local departments. Assistant United States Attorney Stacey R. Speith prosecuted the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative aimed at protecting children from exploitation and abuse.
