Convicted Child Pornographer Sentenced to 5 Years
BUFFALO, N.Y. – A Niagara Falls man has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in a child pornography case.
Zakary Lane Sid ers, 25, was convicted of transporting child pornography in January 2013. U.S. District Judge William M. Skretny handed down the sentence, which Sid ers will serve for the crime of transporting over 60 pornographic images of a minor via the Internet and transporting a hard-drive containing the images to Western New York.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Maura K. O’Donnell said Sid ers sought out and received the images, which were later found on a hard drive. The conviction was the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Richard M. Frankel.
Project Safe Childhood has been a key player in combating the spread of child pornography. The initiative has led to numerous arrests and convictions in cases involving the exploitation of children.
Sid ers’ sentence is a reminder of the serious nature of child pornography cases. The consequences of such crimes can be severe, and law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice.
