Tampa, FL – A gritty sentence has been handed down in federal court as Avery Jones-Neal (29, Dunedin) was sentenced to 12 years and 7 months for distributing cocaine. The guilty plea by Jones-Neal on February 21, 2024, marks the culmination of a relentless investigation.
Court documents reveal Jones-Neal’s dealings with a confidential informant on July 25, July 26, and July 31, 2023. The latter date also saw the sale of a firearm, a clear violation for a convicted felon. A subsequent search warrant at the residence where transactions occurred yielded additional cocaine.
Jones-Neal faced enhanced penalties due to his two prior convictions for narcotics distribution. The case was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Clearwater Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Samantha Newman prosecuted the case with fervor.
This conviction is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at curbing violent crime and gun violence. Launched on May 26, 2021, PSN strengthens community trust through a multifaceted approach including fostering community-based organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and transparent results measurement.
Jones-Neal’s sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in drug trafficking and firearms violations, as law enforcement agencies continue to work tirelessly to keep neighborhoods safe.
