Gulfport, Miss. – In a chilling turn of events, Martin Stephen Brown, a 48-year-old man from Pass Christian, has been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Brown’s crime spree reached its apex on November 10, 2020, when he was caught with a loaded Pietro Beretta .380 caliber firearm. The court records reveal that Brown had already been convicted in Hancock County Circuit Court on multiple drug charges, making it illegal for him to own or possess a weapon.
On May 25, 2021, Brown faced justice by pleading guilty to the charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His downfall was not just due to his unlawful actions but also due to the relentless investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrea Jones took the lead in prosecuting Brown, ensuring that justice was served with a sentence that sends a clear message: felons cannot continue their reign of terror with firearms.
The ATF’s dedication to keeping communities safe from such dangerous individuals has never been more evident than in this case. Their thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution have resulted in a significant reduction in the number of illegal firearms on our streets.
As Brown begins his lengthy sentence, it serves as a stark reminder that the justice system is not forgiving for those who continue to break the law after their first conviction. The Pass Christian community can take solace in knowing that their streets are safer today thanks to the efforts of law enforcement and the justice system.
