BOWLING GREEN, KY – In a gritty turn of justice, Marvelle Woodard, a Logan County man with a violent past, was sentenced today to 37 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett, Special Agent in Charge R. Shawn Morrow, and Sheriff Stephen Stratton joined forces to announce the sentence against Woodard, who has previously been found guilty of first-degree fleeing/evading police, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
The court documents detail that on February 2, 2021, at the age of 37, Woodard was caught with a Taurus G2C nine-millimeter semiautomatic handgun. His previous convictions included a Logan Circuit Court ruling in March 2008.
But it wasn’t just a prison sentence for Woodard; he will also serve three years of supervised release after his time behind bars. Federal parole is non-existent, ensuring that his freedom will be closely monitored.
The ATF Bowling Green Field Office and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation into this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark J. Yurchisin II prosecuted the charges against Woodard from the Bowling Green Branch Office.
This sentencing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across communities. The Department of Justice has been strengthening PSN with strategies focused on fostering trust, supporting community-based organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results to create safer neighborhoods for all.
