William Scott Fogg, Gun Possession, Florida 2024

OCALA, FL – A grim reminder of the perils of repeat criminality came to fruition this week as William Scott Fogg (37), from Altoona, Lake County, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The plea comes after a chilling incident where Fogg threatened his girlfriend and her minor children with a gun.

Fogg has a sordid history, having been convicted of eight felonies since 2008, including burglary, grand theft, and illegal drug possession. His latest transgression occurred on August 28, 2023, when he entered his girlfriend’s truck, removed her pistol from the center console, and threatened to shoot everyone inside.

Responding deputies acted swiftly, apprehending Fogg and recovering a loaded firearm. As a convicted felon, Fogg is legally forbidden from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law. The gravity of his crime could see him face up to 15 years in federal prison, though a sentencing date has yet to be announced.

The investigation into this case was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk is handling the prosecution.

This incident is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across communities. The Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, which strengthens PSN by fostering community trust, supporting prevention organizations, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

Fogg’s case serves as a stark example of the consequences faced by those who continue to flout the law despite multiple convictions. The Grimy Times will continue to report on such cases, ensuring that justice is sought for all victims and communities affected by gun violence.
