WASHINGTON – Franklin Jovany Torres, 42, a convicted sex offender currently serving a federal sentence, has been sentenced to an additional 16 months for threatening revenge against the mother of his teenage victim. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro made the announcement on November 5.
Torres entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly on August 27, admitting to one count of mailing threatening communications. The new sentence will run consecutively to his earlier-imposed 21-year term. Torres is also set for deportation to El Salvador upon completing his sentences.
According to the plea agreement, Torres was convicted in March 2015 following a jury trial for producing, distributing, and possessing child pornography, as well as first-degree sexual abuse of a minor. He was sentenced to 252 months in prison for these crimes.
In July 2015, Torres mailed a handwritten letter from a Federal Corrections Institute in South Carolina to the victim’s mother’s home in Northwest Washington D.C. The Spanish-lettered note vowed, “I’m going to get out one day, and when that day comes is when you are going to shed tears of blood because that day I’m going to get rid of your whole family.”
The boy had been sexually abused by Torres during his stay at the victim’s parents’ apartment. The mother discovered a photo of her son on the defendant’s Facebook page, leading to the report of the abuse.
This case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James B. Nelson. The sentence comes as a stern reminder of the consequences faced by those who threaten victims and their families.
