Cordelia Louisa Espinosa, Methamphetamine Trafficking, New Mexico 2019

Cordelia Louisa Espinosa, a 52-year-old resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for her involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy.

According to court documents, Espinosa participated in the conspiracy from April 2015 to February 2017. During this time, she played a significant role in the distribution of the highly addictive substance, which has ravaged communities across the state.

The case against Espinosa came to a head on December 7, 2016, when she handed over a gift bag containing approximately 553 grams of methamphetamine to another trafficker, who then sold it to an undercover officer. This brazen move not only highlighted Espinosa’s brazen disregard for the law but also the sophistication of the trafficking operation.

On February 9, 2017, Espinosa coordinated a massive drug transaction by telephone, involving over 14 kilograms of methamphetamine. This transaction marked the culmination of the conspiracy and sealed Espinosa’s fate.

Espinosa is not the only one to face justice for her crimes. Three co-defendants, Hector Hugo Magana, Efrain Espinoza-Pena, and Edgar Madrid-Rascon, are also awaiting sentencing for their roles in the conspiracy. Magana, a 35-year-old from Redwood City, California, has already been sentenced to 70 months in prison for his involvement in the distribution of 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.

The investigation into Espinosa’s activities was led by the Albuquerque office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration, the New Mexico State Police, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul J. Mysliwiec and David Cowen prosecuted the case, bringing Espinosa to justice for her crimes.
