ALBANY, Ga. – In a major blow to the city’s narcotics trade, a high-volume methamphetamine distribution network has been dismantled, and its key players have been brought to justice. James Malone, 51, of Albany, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in the operation.

Malone, who pleaded guilty to distribution of methamphetamine, is the mastermind behind the massive trafficking operation that was operating in the city. The network, which was described as a “quick-serve market” for methamphetamine, was responsible for distributing large quantities of the highly addictive and deadly drug to users in the Albany area.

The operation was a collaborative effort between the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The agencies worked tirelessly to gather evidence and build a case against Malone and his co-defendants.

Malone’s co-defendants, who were also sentenced this week, include Laura Ann Dungee-Ali, 49, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for maintaining a drug-involved premises; William Raymond Cook, 46, who received a 12.5-year sentence for possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone; Shannon Marie Mason, 39, who was sentenced to 6.25 years in prison for distribution of methamphetamine; Anthony Dewayne Pearson, 42, who received a 5-year sentence for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute hydrocodone; and Patricia Odom, 50, who was sentenced to 1 year in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

U.S. District Judge Leslie Gardner presided over the case, which was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The sentencing marks a significant victory for law enforcement and the Albany community, which was plagued by the operation.

“In the light of day, these defendants operated a quick-serve market for some of the deadliest illegal drugs available,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary. “Malone and Winchester directed this operation with a shocking brazenness, causing grave harm to drug users and damaging a neighborhood.”

The investigation and subsequent sentencing of Malone and his co-defendants sends a strong message to those involved in the narcotics trade: law enforcement is committed to dismantling and prosecuting these operations, and those who engage in this activity will face severe consequences.
