Leah Summer Garcia, Meth Possession, Montana 2018

A Billings woman was handed a four-year prison sentence for her role in a methamphetamine distribution ring, according to a recent court ruling.

Leah Summer Garcia, 41, was arrested on April 19, 2018, after law enforcement discovered an ounce of methamphetamine in her vehicle while she was visiting an inmate at the local jail. The arrest was made on outstanding warrants.

Garcia, who was on state probation at the time, had been linked to others through drug-related text messages as part of an ongoing investigation.

In a search of her vehicle, authorities found approximately 224 doses of methamphetamine, equivalent to an ounce, prosecutors said in court records.

Garcia pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine earlier this year, paving the way for her sentencing.

U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters presided over the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori Suek.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime by targeting the most violent offenders and partnering with local prevention and reentry programs.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a proven strategy in reducing violent crime, with a broad spectrum of stakeholders working together to identify and address the most pressing violent crime problems in the community.
