Donnovan Orville Horton, Meth Distribution, Montana 2024

GREAT FALLS — Donnovan Orville Horton, a 52-year-old Vaughn man, has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison for distributing methamphetamine from his home near an elementary school, U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich said.

Horton pleaded guilty in January to possession with intent to distribute meth and to being a drug user in possession of firearms. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case.

According to court documents, law enforcement discovered that Horton was distributing meth in December 2022. Officers with the Russell Country Drug Task Force made a series of purchases from Horton, including once in a parking lot in Great Falls and three times from his home in Vaughn.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant on Horton’s residence, which is located less than 200 feet and across the street from an elementary school. During the search, officers found meth, drug paraphernalia, equipment for making hash oil, and four firearms.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey K. Starnes prosecuted the case, with the Russell Country Drug Task Force and FBI conducting the investigation. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a program that brings together law enforcement and communities to make neighborhoods safer. The program is based on core principles, including fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting focused enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
