A Ferguson man has been sentenced to 13 years in federal prison for his role in a fentanyl and methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Derenta Street, 33, pleaded guilty in May to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
On September 29, 2021, St. Louis County Police officers spotted Street near the intersection of Trask and Crowley Drives in north St. Louis County in a Chevrolet Corvette bearing license plates that belonged to another vehicle.
Officers attempted to pull Street over, but he sped off, leading to a high-speed chase. Street eventually threw out a Remington 1911-RlS, .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol, baggies containing fentanyl and methamphetamine, and capsules containing fentanyl before being apprehended.
Once Street stopped and officers arrested him, they found more fentanyl and a Glock 17 9mm pistol equipped with an illegal, aftermarket device that converted it into an automatic weapon, commonly referred to as a ‘switch.’
The case was investigated by the St. Louis County Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Martin prosecuted the case.
Street’s sentencing is a significant blow to those involved in the trafficking of illicit substances in the region.
The sentence should serve as a warning to those who would seek to profit from the sale of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Street’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing are a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement officials in the region.
The sentence is a result of a thorough investigation and prosecution, which highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the justice system.
Street’s sentence will be served in a federal prison, and he will be required to register as a convicted felon upon his release.
