Beckley Man Sentenced to 60 Months in Prison for Meth Conspiracy
A 47-year-old man from Beckley, West Virginia, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for his role in a large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Corey Moore, of Beckley, was one of 10 defendants to be sentenced as part of Operation Shutdown Corner, a long-term investigation into a multi-state drug trafficking organization.
Moore admitted to conspiring to distribute methamphetamine between June 2018 and September 17, 2019, and allowing packages containing the substance to be delivered to his residence in Beckley.
He would then receive directions from other members of the DTO as to who or where the package should be delivered, and followed those directives.
In July 2019, law enforcement officers discovered a package containing approximately five pounds of methamphetamine had been delivered to Moore’s residence, and that he had delivered it to another member of the DTO.
The investigation into Operation Shutdown Corner was a multi-agency effort involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, the Beckley Police Department and the West Virginia State Police.
Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Boggess handled the prosecution, and United States District Judge Frank W. Volk imposed the sentence.
According to United States Attorney Mike Stuart, breaking up drug trafficking networks is a priority for his office, and Operation Shutdown Corner was a huge success in taking down a multi-state meth pipeline and saving countless lives.
