Corey Taylor, a 35-year-old Gary resident, has been sentenced to 57 months in prison for distributing heroin in the city.
According to court filings, Taylor was selling heroin over a period of at least three months. Some of the heroin was laced with fentanyl and carfentanil, synthetic opioids that are 50 and 100 times more potent than heroin, respectively.
The DEA/HIDTA group and Gary Police Department purchased heroin from Taylor on three occasions under controlled conditions. A search of his vehicle and home yielded more controlled substances, which were seized.
Taylor was sentenced on February 6, 2018, by District Court Judge Jon E. DeGuilio. However, the sentence is to be served consecutively to an 8-month sentence imposed by Judge Phillip P. Simon on November 13, 2017, for Taylor’s violation of supervised release conditions after a prior federal drug conviction.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration/Lake County HIDTA Group in cooperation with the Gary Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas McGrath.
Heroin distribution has been a significant concern in the Gary area, with many residents struggling with addiction. The sentencing of Corey Taylor is a step towards combating this issue and bringing those responsible to justice.
The exact charges against Taylor were Distribution of Heroin, and he was found guilty of violating his supervised release conditions.
Taylor’s crime occurred in Gary, Indiana, and he was sentenced in the Northern District of Indiana.
The exact date of Taylor’s crime was not specified in the court filings, but it is believed to have occurred over a period of at least three months.
