HAMMOND – In a stunning blow to East Chicago’s streets, Deandrea ‘Shorty Black’ Davis, 37, has been sentenced to 240 months in prison for his role in a massive cocaine conspiracy.

On Thursday, Hammond District Court Judge James T. Moody handed down the sentence to Davis, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and cocaine base, as well as possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to court documents, Davis and his co-conspirators distributed kilograms of cocaine and crack cocaine in East Chicago during the fall of 2016. The operation, which ran 24/7, involved using drug addicts as distributors, setting up front locations, and utilizing a firearm to protect the stash house.

Davis’ scheme sent a steady stream of cocaine into the neighborhood, putting countless lives at risk. His brazen operation was a stark reminder of the dangers of cocaine trafficking and the need for law enforcement to remain vigilant.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Indiana HIDTA Group and the East Chicago Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas McGrath handled the case.
