Lockport Man Convicted of Cocaine Conspiracy
BUFFALO, N.Y.—A Lockport man has been convicted of a serious crime, one that puts the community at risk. Torano Spencer, 37, of Lockport, New York, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and cocaine base.
The drug conspiracy charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a $1,000,000 fine, or both. This is a stark reminder of the severe consequences of engaging in illegal activities that harm our communities.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Catherine Baumgarten, who is handling the case, Spencer sold cocaine and cocaine base he purchased from Eric Williams to other individuals in the Lockport area. This is not an isolated incident, but rather part of a larger drug trafficking investigation that has led to the convictions of 19 defendants.
Eric Williams, a key player in this investigation, was previously convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, kilograms of cocaine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 10, 2013, and it will be interesting to see how the court handles his case.
The investigation, which led to Spencer’s conviction, was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Niagara County Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Spencer’s sentencing is scheduled for December 3, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. before Judge William M. Skretny. The community is eagerly awaiting the outcome of this case, and we will continue to follow it closely.
This conviction is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and keep our communities safe. It serves as a reminder that those who engage in such activities will be held accountable for their actions.
We will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as more information becomes available. In the meantime, we urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
