Theodore Man Sentenced to 63 Months in Prison for Knifepoint Robbery

A brazen knifepoint robbery at a Theodore gas station ended in the arrest and sentencing of Corey Wilson Lyman, 29, a Theodore man who threatened a cashier with a knife and stole the victim’s money, cell phone, and car keys.

According to court documents, Lyman committed the robbery on December 27, 2020, at a Raceway gas station in Theodore. He then fled the scene of the robbery in the victim’s car and led police on a high-speed chase, blowing through several lighted intersections.

During the chase, Lyman threw two bags from the car that contained cash and a knife. He eventually ran the car into a grassy ditch and attempted to flee into the woods near Dauphin Island Parkway before police apprehended him.

Lyman admitted to committing the robbery, taking the victim’s property by threatening force and violence, and obstructing, delaying, and affecting interstate commerce in violation of the Hobbs Act as part of his guilty plea.

United States District Judge Terry F. Moorer ordered Lyman to serve a three-year term of supervised release upon his release from prison, during which time he will undergo testing and treatment for substance abuse and will be subject to credit restrictions.

Lyman was also ordered to pay $1,500 in restitution to the robbery victim and $100 in special assessments. The court did not impose a fine.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.

A U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello of the Southern District of Alabama made the announcement.

The defendant, Corey Wilson Lyman, will begin serving his 63-month prison sentence immediately.
