Fayetteville Man Sentenced To 10 Years In Federal Prison For Possession With Intent To Distribute Methamphetamine

Fayetteville, Arkansas – A Fayetteville man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, announced United States Attorney Duane (DAK) Kees. Cornelius Cox, 33, was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay a $2,400.00 fine.

The Honorable Timothy L. Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing in the United States District Court in Fayetteville.

Cox was indicted in September 2017 and pleaded guilty in March 2018. He was arrested on August 12, 2017, after detectives located him driving his vehicle and subsequently stopped and arrested him. During a search incident to his arrest, detectives found over 500 grams of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine.

Additionally, detectives located two sets of digital scales in the vehicle, as well as a loaded Ruger pistol and scales and baggies during a subsequent search of his residence.

This case was investigated by the 4th Judicial Drug Task Force (DTF) and was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that has been historically successful in bringing together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Assistant United States Attorney David Harris prosecuted this case for the United States. Cox was charged with one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine in the Western District of Arkansas, Fayetteville Division.
