Nathan Koen, Bribery and Drug Conspiracy, Arkansas 2024

LITTLE ROCK, AR – In a shocking turn of events, a top Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly taking bribes in exchange for providing information to a known drug dealer. Nathan Koen, 42, of Conway, was charged with bribery and drug conspiracy in a federal complaint filed in the Eastern District of Arkansas.

According to the complaint, Koen had been accepting cash payments from the drug dealer between 2016 and 2018 in exchange for providing information that assisted the dealer’s criminal activities. The complaint also alleges that Koen was part of a conspiracy to distribute controlled substances.

Koen, who had been working as a group supervisor at the DEA’s Little Rock Field Office since September 2016, was arrested on a federal complaint and appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Beth Deere on Tuesday afternoon. He was subsequently detained following his initial appearance.

The bribery charge carries a punishment of up to 15 years in prison, while the drug distribution charge is punishable by up to life in prison. Assistant United States Attorneys Benecia Moore and Chris Givens are prosecuting the case, which is being investigated by the FBI.

The charges against Koen come as a major blow to the DEA, which has been struggling to maintain its reputation in recent years. The agency has faced numerous scandals and criticisms over its handling of certain cases.

Koen’s arrest is a stark reminder of the need for accountability within law enforcement agencies. As a DEA agent, Koen was entrusted with upholding the law and protecting the public, but instead, he allegedly chose to prioritize his own interests.

A complaint contains only allegations, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case is being investigated by the FBI, and Assistant United States Attorneys Benecia Moore and Chris Givens are prosecuting the case.
