A West Virginia court has handed down a significant sentence in a high-profile drug case. Cornell D. Wallace, a 28-year-old man from Canton, Ohio, has been sentenced to 77 months in prison for his role in distributing methamphetamine.
The case against Wallace began in August 2018 when he sold methamphetamine in Marshall County, West Virginia. The transaction ultimately led to his arrest and subsequent charges. Wallace pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Distribution of Methamphetamine’ in February 2019.
The investigation into Wallace’s activities was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies. These agencies included the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Marshall County Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, the West Virginia State Police, the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office, the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office, the Sistersville Police Department, the Paden City Police Department, and the New Martinsville Police Department. The Columbus, Ohio, Police Department Gang Crimes Unit also provided assistance in the case.
The investigation received funding from the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF). This program provides critical federal funding and coordination that enables federal and state agencies to work together to identify, investigate, and prosecute significant interstate and international drug trafficking organizations and other criminal enterprises.
Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr. presided over the case.
Wallace’s sentence is a significant blow to those involved in the distribution of methamphetamine in West Virginia. The sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in such activities, which can have devastating effects on individuals and communities.
The case against Wallace is a prime example of the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels. By working together, these agencies can effectively combat the scourge of methamphetamine and other illicit substances.
