CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Robert Hall, 62, is headed to federal prison for a decade after pleading guilty to trafficking methamphetamine in the Coastal Bend. U.S. District Judge Drew B. Tipton delivered the 120-month sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, effectively ending Hall’s freedom for the foreseeable future.
The bust originated from a routine traffic stop on March 16, 2019. Corpus Christi law enforcement pulled Hall over for an unspecified violation, a move that quickly escalated into a major drug investigation. A search of Hall’s vehicle revealed a black backpack stuffed with approximately 54 grams of methamphetamine – enough to warrant a serious federal charge.
Along with the meth, officers discovered a scale and a supply of unused plastic baggies, clear indicators Hall wasn’t just holding the drugs for a friend. Hall readily admitted to knowing the contents of the backpack and his intention to deliver the methamphetamine to an unknown individual within Corpus Christi. He offered no arguments to lessen the statutorily required sentence.
U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei’s office secured the conviction and pushed for the maximum penalty. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley A. Pruitt successfully prosecuted the case, highlighting the commitment of federal authorities to dismantling drug networks operating in South Texas.
The investigation was spearheaded by Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI), demonstrating the agency’s crucial role in combating cross-border drug smuggling. Hall remains in custody pending transfer to a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility, its location yet to be determined.
