SHREVEPORT, La. – A Bossier City man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in a counterfeit Federal Reserve note scheme that left victims in the Shreveport/Bossier City area with fake cash.
Corey Crosby, 23, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Donald E. Walter on charges related to the production and sale of counterfeit $100, $20, and $10 bills. According to evidence presented at Crosby’s guilty plea in February 2014, the 23-year-old was identified as the seller and manufacturer of the fake money in June 2013.
Crosby’s counterfeit operation was a lucrative one, with investigators matching his fingerprints to a printer used to manufacture the fake notes. The printer, along with the counterfeit cash, was seized during the investigation. Crosby was previously convicted on state charges in Caddo Parish for forgery in November 2012.
The U.S. Secret Service – Shreveport Office, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Shreveport Police Department, and Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation, which was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown. Brown prosecuted the case, bringing Crosby to justice for his role in the scheme.
Crosby’s counterfeit operation left a trail of victims in its wake, with many unaware that the cash they were receiving was fake. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying the authenticity of currency before accepting it.
