COLUMBIA, S.C. – Tymarious Nydarious Thompson, 24, of Lancaster, is headed to federal prison for a decade and a half. Thompson was sentenced to 15 years – 180 months – for running a substantial drug operation involving methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana. The sentence, handed down by United States District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis, reflects the severity of his crimes and the danger he posed to the community.
The investigation, a collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, revealed Thompson conspired with Mikel Stewart and others to flood the streets with drugs. Authorities weren’t dealing with small amounts either; the conspiracy involved the distribution of more than 500 grams of methamphetamine. The first raid on Thompson’s Lancaster home in 2019 wasn’t a deterrent – it was a preview of the scale of his operation. Investigators seized a whopping 7 pounds of marijuana, a dangerous, sawed-off shotgun, a handgun, a stash of ammunition, and even counterfeit U.S. currency.
But Thompson didn’t learn his lesson. A subsequent search in 2020 uncovered even more evidence: over 198 grams of pure ice methamphetamine, more marijuana, crack cocaine, another firearm, and a cool $4,000 in cash. The brazenness of the operation is staggering. Even after this second bust, Thompson continued to peddle his deadly product, making direct sales of ice methamphetamine to an undercover agent. He clearly believed he was untouchable.
Federal sentencing guidelines offer no parole. Thompson will serve the full 15 years, followed by a five-year term of court-ordered supervision. The investigation was spearheaded by agents with Department of Homeland Security Investigations, with crucial support from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, the Lancaster Police Department, and the York County Sheriff’s Office. These agencies worked tirelessly to dismantle Thompson’s network and bring him to justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorney William K. Witherspoon is the man prosecuting this case, and his work is a testament to the commitment of the Department of Justice to tackling drug trafficking and violent crime. The bust serves as a stark warning to other would-be drug kingpins in South Carolina: the feds are watching, and they’re willing to bring the full force of the law down on anyone who tries to poison our communities.
This isn’t just about drugs; it’s about the guns, the counterfeit money, and the complete disregard for the law. Thompson’s actions created a ripple effect of harm, and his lengthy sentence reflects the gravity of his offenses. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
