Jose De Jesus Hernandez Castellanos, Meth Distribution, Nebraska 2024

Southern California’s Jose De Jesus Hernandez Castellanos, 21, of Beaumont, has been locked away for 100 months after being sentenced in Omaha for distributing over half a pound of methamphetamine. The United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the June 26, 2024, sentence handed down by Judge Brian C. Buescher, who also ruled there would be no parole under federal law. Upon his release from prison, Hernandez Castellanos will be under supervised release for five years.

The DEA’s undercover operation began unraveling Hernandez Castellanos’s drug network in July 2022 when an agent ordered a pound of meth over the phone. The shipment, weighing approximately 850 grams, arrived in Omaha on July 27, 2022.

In a plea agreement, Hernandez Castellanos avoided conspiracy charges by pleading guilty to distribution. His co-defendant, Anthony Torres, 31, faces conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, currently awaiting trial in Los Angeles County on state charges.

This high-profile case was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Douglas County Sherriff’s Office. The office provided crucial support with forensic testing of the meth and fingerprint analysis, contributing to the successful prosecution of Hernandez Castellanos.

While Hernandez Castellanos’s sentence sends a strong message against drug trafficking in Nebraska, his co-defendant awaits trial, adding another layer to this ongoing battle against organized crime. The sentencing underscores the federal government’s commitment to dismantling drug rings and ensuring justice for those who violate laws affecting public safety.
