Counterfeiter Caught: Adrian Logan Pleads Guilty

Madison man, Adrian Daniel Logan, 26, has pleaded guilty to passing counterfeit United States currency, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both, as well as three years of supervised release and a $100 contribution to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

According to the U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson, Logan appeared before U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on July 17, 2013, and entered a guilty plea.

The conviction stems from an incident that took place on January 10, 2013, when Logan purchased a bottle of pop from the La Tapatia Mexican Store in Sioux Falls using a counterfeit $20 bill.

After receiving genuine currency as change from the store clerk, Logan attempted to pass another counterfeit $20 bill by requesting change for it. However, the cashier recognized the second bill as counterfeit, prompting Logan to flee the store.

The investigation was conducted by the Madison Police Department, the Sioux Falls Police Department, and the U.S. Secret Service, with the case being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper.

A presentence investigation has been ordered, and a sentencing date has been set for October 7, 2013. Logan was released on bond pending sentencing. The courts will now determine the severity of Logan’s punishment for his crime.

Logan’s actions not only affected the business he attempted to deceive but also the community at large. His guilty plea serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in such illicit activities.
