Crack Cocaine Smuggler Sentenced in Police Headquarters

A Henrico man has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for attempting to smuggle crack cocaine into police headquarters, authorities announced today.

Zyejuan Redd, 21, was arrested on September 5, 2017, on an outstanding warrant in the Mosby Court public housing community. Redd was taken to Richmond Police Department headquarters where he was placed in an interview room.

Video monitoring equipment captured Redd reaching into his pants and attempting to retrieve an item. RPD officers confronted Redd and discovered 30 individually wrapped corner baggies of crack cocaine and a baggie containing heroin hidden in his underwear.

The discovery was made after RPD officers observed Redd jostling the front of his pants in an attempt to retrieve the hidden items. The officers then searched Redd and found the plastic bags containing the crack cocaine and heroin.

“This sentence serves as a reminder that law enforcement will not tolerate the smuggling of illicit substances into our facilities,” said a spokesperson for the Richmond Police Department.

Zyejuan Redd pleaded guilty to one count of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, as charged in a one-count indictment.

U.S. Attorney G. Zachary Terwilliger and Acting Special Agent in Charge Scott W. Hoernke announced the sentencing of Redd, who was sentenced by U.S. District Judge M. Hannah Lauck. Assistant U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert prosecuted the case.

Redd will serve five years of supervised release after completing his prison sentence.
