SCRANTON – Crack Cocaine Trafficker Sentenced to 10 Years

A West Hazleton man was handed a stiff sentence for his role in crack cocaine trafficking and related firearms offenses. Randell Bruton-Scott, 34, was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment and four years of supervised release by United States District Judge Robert D. Mariani.

According to Acting United States Attorney Bruce D. Brandler, Bruton-Scott previously pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing with intent to distribute between 28 and 112 grams of crack cocaine in May and June 2019. This is a serious offense, and the sentence reflects the severity of the crime.

Bruton-Scott also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition that were recovered during a search warrant executed at his West Hazleton residence on June 20, 2019. Due to his significant criminal history, Bruton-Scott was deemed a career offender subject to enhanced potential penalties.

The matter was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosive, the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, and the West Hazleton Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Phillip J. Caraballo is prosecuting the case.

This case was prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.

As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime. The collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community organizations is crucial in reducing the threat of violent crime in our communities.
