Credit Card Scammer Caught in South Carolina
A 21-year-old New York man has been caught in a credit card scam in South Carolina. Donnell J. Slay, Jr., of Uniondale, New York, pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court in Greenville to conspiracy to commit access device fraud.
According to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles, Slay was found with a total of 50 fraudulent credit cards on his person when the Gaffney Police Department was summoned to the Gaffney Premium Outlet to investigate reports of fraudulent transactions on January 17, 2016.
During the execution of a search warrant for the vehicle driven by Slay, officers located an additional 27 counterfeit credit cards embossed with Slay’s name. The investigation was led by the Gaffney Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Investigations.
Mr. Nettles stated that the maximum penalty Slay can receive is a fine of $250,000 and/or imprisonment for 5 years, plus a special assessment of $100. The case was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Bill Watkins of the Greenville office.
The guilty plea was accepted by United States District Judge Bruce Howe Hendricks of Charleston, who will impose sentence after reviewing the presentence report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
