Methamphetamine Conspiracy Haunts Muscatine Woman

A Muscatine woman has been handed a significant prison sentence for her role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that spanned across state lines.

Cristina Kaye Briones, 38, was sentenced to 192 months in prison on April 26, 2023, after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy to distribute 50 grams of methamphetamine and possession of five grams or more of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, law enforcement received information that Briones and her co-conspirators were obtaining large quantities of pure methamphetamine through the mail directly from California suppliers.

This illicit operation was eventually brought to a halt by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration, who investigated the case and worked tirelessly to dismantle the conspiracy.

Following her prison term, Briones was ordered to serve a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine and the devastating impact it has on communities across the country.
