OXFORD, MS – In a major blow to a large-scale drug trafficking organization, 49-year-old Linda Hunt of Crowder, Mississippi was sentenced to 276 months in prison for distribution of methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Hunt, a key player in the organization, pled guilty in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi to distribution of methamphetamine. U.S. District Court Judge Sharion Aycock handed down the sentence on Tuesday afternoon, also ordering Hunt to serve 5 years of supervised release following her release from prison.
The investigation, spanning multiple years, involved a collaborative effort between federal and state law enforcement agencies, including the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi.
The sentencing of Hunt marks the culmination of a multi-year investigation targeting the organization, which also involved several other defendants. The investigation and prosecution of the defendants were led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Clyde McGee and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi.
U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies in bringing down the organization, stating, “Criminal actions have consequences, and the sentences handed down to this trafficking organization demonstrate that the full force of the law will be employed to bring those consequences to drug dealers who introduce poison into our communities.”
Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell also commended the collaborative effort between agencies, saying, “I am proud to see the success of the partnership between the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Drug Enforcement Agency, and all other assisting agencies who worked together to ensure these criminals were held accountable for their actions.”
The Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Orleans Division Special Agent in Charge, Steven Hofer, added, “The sentencing of the final defendant in this multi-year investigation targeting a major drug trafficking ring exemplifies the power of combined forces in dismantling drug trafficking organizations and keeping our communities safe.”
In addition to Hunt, several other defendants have been sentenced in connection with the organization. They include:
Lucas Smith, 49, of Oxford, Mississippi, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit money laundering, and was sentenced to 240 months imprisonment, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a final order of forfeiture in the amount of $100,000.00.
Preston Cross, 32, of Oxford, Mississippi, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, and was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment, followed by 5 years of supervised release.
Terence Lomax, 42, of Oxford, Mississippi, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, and was sentenced to 150 months imprisonment, followed by 5 years of supervised release.
Domonique Cross, 35, of Oxford, Mississippi, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering, and was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment, followed by 3 years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a final order of forfeiture in the amount of $30,000.00.
James Taylor, 48, of Oxford, Mississippi, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, and was sentenced to 219 months imprisonment, followed by 5 years of supervised release.
Genise Cox, 41, of Oxford, Mississippi, who pleaded guilty to distribution of methamphetamine, and was sentenced to 26 months imprisonment, followed by 4 years of supervised release.
The investigation and prosecution of these cases were made possible through the efforts of the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods.
