Cruz-Araujo, Violent Crime, Maryland 2015

On March 11, 2015, a federal grand jury in the Maryland District Federal Court indicted Cruz-Araujo, a 32-year-old resident of Baltimore, Maryland, on multiple counts of violent crimes.

According to the indictment, Cruz-Araujo was accused of participating in a violent gang that targeted rival gangs and innocent civilians, resulting in several fatal shootings. The defendant was charged with racketeering conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, and illegal firearms trafficking, among other charges.

The case against Cruz-Araujo was built by a team of federal and local law enforcement agencies, who spent months gathering evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses. On April 15, 2015, Cruz-Araujo was arrested by federal agents at his residence in Baltimore.

As the case progressed, prosecutors presented a wealth of evidence, including testimony from former gang members and forensic analysis of evidence collected from crime scenes. The prosecution argued that Cruz-Araujo was a key player in the gang’s hierarchy, responsible for ordering hits and overseeing the gang’s illicit activities.

On August 25, 2016, Cruz-Araujo pleaded guilty to all charges against him, including racketeering conspiracy and murder in aid of racketeering. As part of the plea agreement, the defendant cooperated with investigators, providing information about the gang’s leadership and activities. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to recommend a reduced sentence.

On January 30, 2017, Cruz-Araujo was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake. The sentence reflected the severity of the crimes committed and the defendant’s role in the violent gang. With credit for time served, Cruz-Araujo will be eligible for release in 2027.
