Narali Arevalo-Casay, National Defense Property Security Regulation Violation, Texas 2020

EL PASO, Texas – In a gritty courtroom victory, a Cuban national has been convicted for daring to violate the sanctity of our nation’s defense property. Narali Arevalo-Casay, 23, was found guilty by a federal jury today on one count of violating a defense property security regulation. Arevalo-Casay had the audacity to illegally enter the United States from Mexico on May 7, wading across the Rio Grande River less than a mile west of the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry.

The case took a turn for the worse as Arevalo-Casay was sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Judge Miguel Torres to time-served, effectively meaning he served his sentence from the moment of his arrest. The misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of one year in federal prison, but the judge’s leniency was swift and decisive.

U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas heralded this as a victory in their relentless fight against illegal immigration. ‘We will not tolerate those who undermine our national security,’ Simmons stated. The U.S. Border Patrol, the agency tasked with keeping our borders safe, was instrumental in investigating and bringing Arevalo-Casay to justice.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kyle Myers and Scott Wisniewski prosecuted the case with fervor, ensuring that the law was upheld. This conviction is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling cartels, transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protecting our communities from violent crime.

Operation Take Back America has streamlined efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN), showcasing a united front in the battle against illegal immigration and organized crime.

This sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who attempt to defy the laws that protect our nation. Arevalo-Casay’s case serves as a testament to the unwavering dedication of law enforcement agencies like the U.S. Border Patrol, who tirelessly work to keep America safe.
