Curtis Goodman, Cocaine Distribution, South Carolina 2023

Curtis Goodman, a 40-year-old Lynchburg man, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a massive cocaine distribution ring that spanned over a decade in Florence, Darlington, and Sumter Counties.

According to evidence presented in court, Goodman was a key supplier of cocaine to other drug dealers in the region, selling them significant quantities of the substance totaling more than five kilograms. The investigation, which was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, Florence County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clayton County, Georgia, Police Department, revealed that Goodman’s involvement in the conspiracy dated back to 2009.

On February 15, 2019, detectives from the Clayton County Police Department used a drug detection dog to screen luggage from a flight at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The dog alerted on several pieces of luggage, one of which belonged to Goodman. Detectives opened the luggage and found over 43 pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed packages.

Goodman, who appeared via videoconference due to the pandemic, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison, to be followed by a five-year term of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney A. Bradley Parham of the Florence office.

Goodman’s sentencing marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the fight against cocaine trafficking in the region. The investigation and prosecution of Goodman’s case serves as a reminder that those involved in the distribution of illegal substances will be held accountable for their actions.
