South Carolina Men Get Prison Time for Heroin, Fentanyl Distribution

FLORENCE — Two Horry County men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a multi-year conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl in the Aynor area of South Carolina.

Scorpio Teriell Tisdale, 28, of Gallivants Ferry, and Michael Keith McKenith, 32, of Aynor, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl. U.S. District Judge R. Bryan Harwell handed down the sentences of 10 years and 7 years respectively.

As part of a multi-year conspiracy, Tisdale and McKenith served as middlemen in the drug trafficking operation, receiving heroin and fentanyl from suppliers and distributing them to others. The evidence presented to the court showed that during the course of the conspiracy, Tisdale was held accountable for nearly 15 kilograms of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl, while McKenith was held accountable for 2.5 kilograms of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl.

Chief U.S. District Judge R. Bryan Harwell sentenced Tisdale to 120 months in federal prison, which will be followed by a five-year term of court-ordered supervision. McKenith received an 84-month sentence, to be followed by a four-year term of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole available in the federal system.

Two additional co-conspirators have pleaded guilty in the case and will be sentenced at a later date. The case was investigated by the Horry County Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine Flynn handled the prosecution.

The sentences handed down to Tisdale and McKenith serve as a reminder of the consequences of participating in drug trafficking. As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen whether others will be brought to justice for their roles in the conspiracy.

It’s clear that the flow of heroin and fentanyl into the Aynor area has had devastating consequences for those affected by it. As the community continues to grapple with the fallout, it’s essential that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
