Eric Davis, Armed Murder, District of Columbia 2021

WASHINGTON – In a guilty verdict that brings some semblance of justice to a grieving family, 60-year-old Eric Davis of Washington, D.C. was found guilty today of first-degree murder while armed for the July 2021 shooting of Theodore ‘Bino’ Riley.

According to evidence presented during the trial, on July 19, 2021, around 7:33 p.m., Davis was captured on surveillance walking with the victim, Theodore Riley, to an alley adjacent to 1608 Gales Street Northeast. Once in the alley, Davis shot Mr. Riley once in the head.

The defendant then quickly walked out of the south end of the alley and fled while attempting to change his outward appearance by putting on a long-sleeved shirt over the short-sleeved shirt he had been wearing. Mr. Riley was found in the alley face-down with a single .45 caliber casing at his feet.

Davis was arrested on September 22, 2021. The Honorable Michael O’Keefe scheduled sentencing for August 2, 2024. Davis was found guilty following a jury trial in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, of first-degree murder while armed and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence or dangerous offense.

This case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department. It was prosecuted and tried by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kathleen Gibbons and Saman Danai of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

A statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia read, ‘We hope that this verdict brings some measure of closure to the family and loved ones of Theodore Riley.’ The U.S. Attorney’s Office also thanked the Metropolitan Police Department for their tireless work in investigating this case.

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia will now schedule sentencing for Eric Davis, who is currently being held pending his scheduled sentencing on August 2, 2024.
