Eric Davis, First-Degree Murder While Armed, Washington 2021

WASHINGTON – In a shocking verdict, Eric Davis, 60, of Washington, D.C., was found guilty today by a jury of first-degree murder while armed for the July 2021 shooting of Theodore ‘Bino’ Riley.

The grueling trial, which drew to a close after weeks of testimony, saw Davis held accountable for the senseless slaughter of the 43-year-old Riley, whose life was cut short in a dark alleyway in the nation’s capital.

According to evidence presented during the trial, on July 19, 2021, around 7:33 p.m., Davis was captured on surveillance walking with the victim, Riley, to an alley adjacent to 1608 Gales Street Northeast. Once in the alley, Davis shot Riley once in the head. The defendant then quickly walked out of the south end of the alley and fled while attempting to change his outward appearance by putting on a long-sleeved shirt over the short-sleeved shirt he had been wearing.

Riley was found in the alley face-down with a single .45 caliber casing at his feet. The brutal crime sent shockwaves through the community, leaving loved ones and friends to pick up the pieces of a shattered life.

Davis was arrested on September 22, 2021, after a lengthy investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department. He has been held without bail since his arrest pending sentencing.

The Honorable Michael O’Keefe scheduled sentencing for August 2, 2024. Davis was found guilty following a jury trial in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, of first-degree murder while armed and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence or dangerous offense. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kathleen Gibbons and Saman Danai of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia prosecuted and tried the case.

As the community continues to grapple with the trauma of this heinous crime, the guilty verdict brings a measure of justice to the family and loved ones of the victim. The verdict is a stark reminder that those who commit such atrocities will be held accountable for their actions.
