RAPID CITY, South Dakota – In a federal case, a Sturgis man has been sentenced for illegally possessing a firearm.
Dallas Ford, 29, was found guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person in a federal court.
This charge stemmed from Ford’s illegal possession of a .22 caliber, semi-automatic pistol in December 2021 in Sturgis, South Dakota.
The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program focused on reducing violent crime and gun violence. This project brings together law enforcement and the communities they serve.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives, along with the Sturgis Police Department, investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Patterson prosecuted the case.
Ford was sentenced to three years in federal prison and three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Ford was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. This incident is a reminder of the importance of gun safety and the consequences of violating federal laws.
