Jarrad Smith, Illegal Firearm Possession, South Dakota 2022

United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell dropped a重磅 on Rapid City, South Dakota, announcing that 37-year-old Jarrad Smith has been indicted for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

The charge stems from December 2022 when Smith, who is also wanted for a prior felony conviction, was caught with a semi-automatic pistol in the heart of Rapid City. Smith’s arraignment on February 10, 2023, saw him entering a plea of not guilty to the federal indictment.

Smith’s potential punishment is severe, including up to 10 years behind bars and a $250,000 fine, not to mention supervised release and restitution. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative that aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence across America.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Rapid City Police Department are on the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Sazama leading the prosecution. Smith remains in custody pending trial set for April 18, 2023.

Despite the charges against him, Jarrad Smith is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
