RADCLIFF, KY – A pair of Radcliff men are facing significant federal time after being convicted for a month-long spree of armed robberies that terrorized local businesses. Damian Beamus, 27, and Joshua Dimon Jones, 30, were sentenced this week in Louisville, Kentucky, bringing an end to a case that stretched back to February 2021.
The pair systematically targeted five businesses over a 30-day period, each time brandishing firearms and demanding cash. Beamus, the ringleader, was handed a hefty 16 years and 4 months in prison, followed by a 3-year term of supervised release, after being found guilty on five counts of interference with commerce by robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. The businesses hit included 007 Liquors, Hibbett Sports, Applebee’s Bar and Grill, Stop N Shop, and Brooks Express – all in Radcliff and Elizabethtown.
According to court documents, Beamus and an accomplice stormed 007 Liquors on February 2, 2021, making off with an undisclosed amount of money. The robberies continued relentlessly: Hibbett Sports on February 28, Applebee’s on February 21, and then Stop N Shop in Elizabethtown on February 25. The final target was Brooks Express in Radcliff on March 2, 2021. In each instance, the threat of violence loomed large as the robbers demanded cash from terrified employees.
Joshua Jones, while not involved in all five robberies, played a key role in the Stop N Shop heist on February 25, 2021. Adding to his legal woes, Jones, a convicted felon already prohibited from possessing firearms, was later found to be in possession of one of the weapons used in the robberies. This led to a sentence of 7 years and 8 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, on charges of interference with commerce by robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky lauded the collaborative effort of the ATF Louisville Field Division, the FBI Louisville Field Office, the Elizabethtown Police Department, and the Radcliff Police Department. “This case is indicative of the collaboration and cooperation that exists among our federal, state and local enforcement agencies,” Bennett stated. Special Agent in Charge R. Shawn Morrow of the ATF emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating, “These two defendants threatened the safety of innocent people… These sentences send a clear message that if you use a firearm to commit a violent crime, Kentucky law enforcement will ensure you receive justice.”
With no parole in the federal system, Beamus and Jones will serve their full sentences. The successful prosecution, aided by Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin McKenzie, is a testament to the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies across Kentucky. Chief Jeremy Thompson of the Elizabethtown Police Department and Chief Jeffrey A. Cross of the Radcliff Police Department both highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation in protecting citizens and bringing criminals to justice. This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal program focused on reducing violent crime.
