DAMIAN R. RODRIGUEZ, Conspiracy to Sell Identification Documents, Louisiana 2024

Harahan Man Sentenced for Conspiracy to Sell Identification Documents

In a bold move against identity theft, U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite announced that DAMIAN R. RODRIGUEZ, a 38-year-old Harahan resident, was sentenced to four months imprisonment and two years of supervised release for conspiracy to transfer identification documents in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1028(f).

RODRIGUEZ, who pleaded guilty to the charges, conspired with two other individuals to sell a social security card and birth certificate to a confidential informant working with Special Agents of the Department of Homeland Security.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Sarah S. Vance, who clearly took the crime very seriously. “This case is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of identity theft,” Polite said in a statement. “We will continue to work tirelessly to protect the citizens of Louisiana from these types of crimes.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Spiro G. Latsis was in charge of the prosecution, and the United States Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, were praised for their work in investigating the matter.

The case serves as a warning to those who seek to profit from the suffering of others. Identity theft is a serious crime that can have far-reaching consequences, from financial ruin to damage to one’s reputation.

As the Grimy Times continues to investigate, it is clear that DAMIAN R. RODRIGUEZ will have to face the music for his crimes. With a sentence of four months imprisonment and two years of supervised release, RODRIGUEZ will have plenty of time to reflect on his actions and the harm he has caused to others.
