BRIDGEPORT, CT – A Danbury man will spend the next quarter-century behind bars after being sentenced for a sickening crime against a child. ENRIQUE PAULO PUCHA-JIMENEZ, 34, a citizen of Ecuador, was handed a 300-month (25-year) federal prison sentence today by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley, following a disturbing case of exploitation and abuse.
Court documents paint a grim picture. Between November 2020 and August 2023, Pucha-Jimenez repeatedly sexually abused a minor girl, estimated to be between nine and twelve years old. But the depravity didn’t end there. He meticulously documented the abuse, using his cellphone to capture photographs and videos of the horrific acts. It was a calculated effort to preserve and revisit his crimes.
The case initially broke on August 16, 2023, when the Danbury Police Department arrested Pucha-Jimenez on state-level sexual assault and risk of injury charges. A subsequent forensic examination of his phone revealed the full extent of the damage: a staggering 576 images and 36 videos depicting the abuse of the young victim. The sheer volume of material underscores the prolonged and predatory nature of Pucha-Jimenez’s actions.
Pucha-Jimenez has remained detained since his arrest. On August 1, 2024, he finally admitted guilt in federal court, pleading guilty to the charge of production of child pornography. While the federal case is now closed with sentencing, the state charges remain pending, potentially adding to his already lengthy prison term. He will also face immigration proceedings upon completion of his sentence, likely resulting in deportation.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Danbury Police Department, highlighting the importance of interagency cooperation in tackling these heinous crimes. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel E. Cummings led the prosecution, with support from the Office of the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Danbury.
