A Springville man has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for firearm possession in New York.

A federal court in Buffalo, New York, has handed down a 24-month prison sentence to Daniel J. Bakowski, 35, of Springville, NY, for possession of a firearm in interstate commerce after a felony conviction.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, on January 10, 2014, police officers executed a search warrant at the defendant’s then-residence, 1418 Eagle Street in Freedom, NY, where they discovered a Smith and Wesson, 12-gauge shotgun and a digital scale with cocaine residue on it in Bakowski’s bedroom.

Officers also found evidence of a marijuana grow operation in the basement, which the defendant admitted to operating.

The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Steven A. Nigrelli, and Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Delano A. Reid, New York Field Division.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank T. Pimentel handled the case.
