CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Monongalia County man has been sentenced for his role in a drug trafficking operation. Daniel Meadows, 49, of Morgantown, West Virginia, was sentenced to two years of probation, with the first eight months in home confinement.
Meadows pleaded guilty in October 2020 to one count of ‘Unlawful Use of Communication Facility.’ He admitted to using a communication facility to distribute drugs in March 2020 in Monongalia County.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mon Metro Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
This effort is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach.
Sr. U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided.
The case is connected to a larger operation in which 17 people were charged with heroin and crack cocaine distribution. Further information on the case can be found in the related press release.
The residents of West Virginia can rest a little easier knowing that justice has been served in this case. Meadows’ actions put the community at risk, and his punishment is a reminder that drug trafficking will not be tolerated.
