Norwich Man Pleads Guilty to Making Threats

A Norwich man has pleaded guilty to making interstate threats, according to a plea agreement filed in federal court, March 2, 2020.

Daniel Scott, 32, of Norwich, pleaded guilty to one count of making interstate threats, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Scott made the threatening calls and sent threatening texts to a woman he met online after she rejected his romantic advances.

According to court documents, Scott sent the victim a text message stating that he would shoot up the gym where she worked, and he followed through on his threat, appearing at the gym in the Bronx on March 2, 2020. The victim called 9-1-1, and Scott was arrested by the New York Police Department on domestic violence charges.

At the time of his arrest, Scott was on federal supervised release for prior narcotics distribution offenses. He has been detained since his arrest.

Scott’s guilty plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas O. Farrish via videoconference, as permitted under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas P. Morabito, and the investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) with the assistance of the New York Police Department.
