A St. Johns County man has pleaded guilty to tax fraud, putting him at risk of up to five years in federal prison.

Daniel Tharp, the managing director for Hangar X Holdings, LLC, admitted to willfully failing to pay taxes owed to the IRS. The company paid wages to employees and withheld trust fund taxes, including income taxes, Medicare taxes, and Social Security taxes, from October 2014 through December 2019.

However, Tharp knowingly and intentionally failed to pay this money to the IRS, causing the company to fail to pay over $1.2 million in such taxes.

The case was investigated by the IRS-Criminal Investigation division, and Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro is handling the prosecution.

Tharp’s sentencing date has not yet been set, but he faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison.
