Las Vegas, NV – A shocking case of fentanyl trafficking has come to an end with a 10-year prison sentence for Daniel Thorndal, a 51-year-old Las Vegas resident. According to court documents, Thorndal conspired with others to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and five grams or more of methamphetamine in Las Vegas.
The charges against Thorndal stem from multiple incidents of selling fentanyl and methamphetamine at his residence, which was located directly across the street from an elementary school. On April 15, 2022, Thorndal sold methamphetamine and fentanyl at his residence, while on April 21, 2022, he sold fentanyl again at the same location. The FBI executed a search warrant on the residence on May 6, 2022, recovering approximately 422 grams of methamphetamine and approximately 127 grams of fentanyl.
In addition to the recovered drugs, law enforcement officials also found a .380 caliber pistol at the scene, which was allegedly possessed in furtherance of the drug conspiracy. Thorndal’s plea agreement included a guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Thorndal was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by four years of supervised release. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada, in conjunction with the FBI and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, led the investigation into Thorndal’s activities.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob Operskalski. United States Attorney Jason M. Frierson for the District of Nevada and Special Agent in Charge Spencer L. Evans for the FBI announced the sentencing.
The sentencing of Daniel Thorndal serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of fentanyl trafficking and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat this growing threat. As the opioid crisis continues to ravage communities across the country, cases like Thorndal’s highlight the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
In related news, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has increased patrols in the area surrounding the elementary school, in an effort to prevent further incidents of drug trafficking.
