BOSTON – In a stunning blow to the Boston underworld, former Quincy man Samuel Jean-Baptiste, a/k/a ‘Jett Black,’ 38, has been arrested for allegedly distributing 10 pounds of methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Jean-Baptiste was identified as a significant distributor of controlled substances in the Boston area in early July 2023. A confidential source made three controlled purchases totaling a combined 700 grams of fentanyl from Jean-Baptiste, leading authorities to take notice.
Fast forward to May 2024, when Jean-Baptiste allegedly informed a second confidential source that he would soon be traveling from Las Vegas to Boston to sell 10 pounds of methamphetamine in exchange for a cool $32,000. The planned transaction was set to go down at a gas station at Logan Airport, after which Jean-Baptiste would ‘disappear back into the airport’ to travel back to Las Vegas.
But authorities were hot on Jean-Baptiste’s trail, and he was immediately apprehended upon arriving at the gas station. A search of his backpack turned up approximately 10 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, further solidifying the case against him.
The charge of distribution of methamphetamine carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a maximum fine of $1 million. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes governing the determination of a sentence in a criminal case.
Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division, made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan Panich of the Narcotics & Money Laundering Unit is prosecuting the case, which is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation.
The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
